ADJUDICATOR PUBLISHES DECISION ON AN OBJECTION TO THE ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS OF WENLOCK CE JUNIOR SCHOOL, LUTON

The Office of the Schools Adjudicator today announced a decision on the
objection by Luton Borough Council to Wenlock CE Junior School.

Luton Borough Council objected to the lack of priority given to non-faith
looked after children within the School's admission arrangements.

The adjudicator, Dr Hilary Nicolle, upheld the objection. She concluded
that the school should give non-faith looked after children priority in its
admission arrangements above children that are not in public care.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Schools adjudicators are independent of the Government. They decide on school
organisation issues and admission arrangements which cannot be resolved
locally. They were appointed under the School Standards and Framework Act
1998. Their role is to look afresh at all cases referred to them, considering
each case on its merits and taking account of the reasons for disagreement
at local level in the light of the legislation and the guidance in the Code
of Practice on Schools Admissions.
